Job Description: Functions as a systems administrator for a primarily Windows environment engaged in
developing, maintaining, installing, using, and operating Windows server which provide
support to the College of Architecture and the respective departments. Provides consulting,
technical support, and training to users on technical staff. Provide support on certain critical
subsystems such as MS Exchange, Active Directory and Virtual Servers. Has primary
responsibility for software products, recommends software and hardware upgrades, learns
procedures to develop systems software, and may assist with the development of systems
software. Assist other employees in resolving certain technical problems, confers with other
personnel in resolving problems involving procedural and technical matters, provides more
advanced technical support for the customer, and researches problems and recommends
solutions.
Provides resources estimates and progress reports, ensures that all work is accurate and in
compliance with departmental or project quality standards, and participates in training and
professional development sessions. Documents all changes to systems software and
develops entries for a systems support database. Assists other areas of a complex
computing environment such as production control, disaster recovery, networking, computer
operations, and other operating systems. Performs the following specialized duties: provides
assistance in resolving hardware and software problems with vendor ?eld engineers, and
assists with the installation and maintenance of both critical and non-critical software.
Provides on-call support on nights and weekends as needed, provides input for the planning
and budget process, and performs related duties as required. Other duties as required.
Quali?cations: Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience. One year of
experience may substitute for one year of education. Two years of systems administration
experience. Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Must be able to
work in a collaborative team environment.
Prefer system administration experience that primarily dealt with Microsoft Active Directory,
Exchange, Virtual Servers and SMS. Two years experience creating and deploying images
using Altiris. One year UNIX server system administration. One year Mac OS X experience.
